Medical errors committed by a doctor in Providence can cause a number of issues and complications for a patient. Infections, aggravated medical issues, and even allergic reactions have been known to happen when a doctor makes a mistake in the type of treatment or diagnosis that a patient receives. A doctor error can also bring additional pain and suffering to a patient and in some cases create a life-threatening situation.
A North Providence woman started having trouble with her breathing in 2010. Four years earlier, she had been treated for breast cancer, receiving her chemotherapy through a port which was inserted at Miriam Hospital. Little did she know that when the port was removed, a small piece of it had been missed by her doctor and had attached itself to the jugular vein; the piece showed up when an x-ray was taken of the woman's chest.
Now the woman faces a catch-22. If she leaves the piece there, it could kill her but taking it out could also result in her death. As a result of her condition, she has filed a medical malpractice lawsuit against the hospital for the life-threatening error. It is unknown how much in compensation that she is asking for.
When a patient has been greatly harmed because of the negligence of a doctor, that patient may face some tough decisions. By asking for compensation, the patient can make sure that all medical costs are covered and that there is money set aside for future care. Anyone who has been harmed by a doctor may want to think about meeting with an attorney to understand the litigation process.
